The tour begins with a visit to Hadrian’s Villa. This is the imperial residence built by Hadrian and is one of the most interesting architectural complexes near Rome. It consists of splendid gardens, fountains and monumental porticoes, among which the canopic jetty, the maritime theatre and the great baths are particularly noteworthy.
This stage will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
After a break to have a bite to eat on your own, you will proceed to the second stage: Villa d’Este. It is a former Benedictine convent recognised as one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture. Built by the Duchess Lucrezia Borgia in the 15th century, the villa’s history hides a long series of events and scandals, which your guide will be pleased to tell you about.
