The grottoes offer a rare glimpse into the tradition and continuity of the Catholic faith, with each tomb reflecting the historical period and legacy of the pope it commemorates. This quiet and solemn area provides a reflective pause within the tour, highlighting the Basilica’s role as both a place of worship and a historical archive.
Within St. Peter’s Basilica, guests encounter masterpieces by Bernini, Michelangelo, and other renowned artists. Highlights include the breathtaking Baldachin of St. Peter, crafted by Bernini, which towers over the altar and adds an awe-inspiring centerpiece to the Basilica’s nave. Michelangelo’s Pietà, a delicate portrayal of Mary and the crucified Christ, captivates with its emotive realism and serves as a profound reminder of faith and artistry. The line was incredibly long, but Francesca had so much knowledge to share. Her anecdotes were much appreciated. The climb to the top of the dome was challenging, especially in the warm stairwells, and I was quite tired after standing in line for two hours.

The guide explained everything brilliantly, very friendly. The only drawback was the long queues, as there were many people, and we had to wait quite a while to enter.
