The Vatican Museums, situated within Vatican City, house one of the world’s most important art collections, encompassing ancient sculptures, religious relics, and masterful Renaissance paintings.
At the heart of the Vatican Museums lies the Sistine Chapel, world-famous for Michelangelo’s extraordinary ceiling fresco, depicting the Creation of Adam. His monumental work ‘The Last Judgment’ covers the chapel’s altar wall, showcasing his exceptional talent and understanding of human anatomy. Commissioned by Pope Julius II in the early 16th century, these frescoes stand as a testament to Michelangelo’s lasting legacy and are revered by art enthusiasts and historians alike.
The Raphael Rooms, another highlight of the Vatican Museums, feature frescoes painted by Raphael and his workshop, including the iconic ‘School of Athens.’ These rooms represent the epitome of Renaissance art, with meticulous attention to perspective, anatomy, and symbolism, capturing key figures from classical philosophy and theology. Visitors are transported back to the High Renaissance period, witnessing firsthand the unparalleled artistic achievements that continue to inspire scholars and visitors worldwide.
The Vatican Museums boast an extensive collection of classical sculptures, including works from ancient Greece and Rome. Notable pieces like the Apollo Belvedere and the Laocoön and His Sons illustrate the evolution of sculpture and offer insight into ancient religious and cultural practices. These sculptures have influenced artists throughout the centuries, offering visitors a chance to appreciate the technical skill and artistic expression that define classical antiquity.

Good, a very moving experience that showcased human creativity and intelligence immensely. We bought the package, but the tour company did not provide a discounted ticket for children under 18.

There was a mistake made at the Office of Tourism. No guided tour for us, nobody to help us in the crowd. Extremely frustrating and stressful!

Awesome. Best place to visit in Rome. You need 4-6 hours, really 😉

We stood in line for a long time and then we had to walk a trail worse than in Ikea to get to a totally overcrowded Sistine Chapel.
